NEWPORT CONSERVATIVES WELCOME OMAR ALI

A former Labour Councillor Omar Ali has joined the Conservative Party.

Welcoming the news, Leader of the Conservative Group on Newport City Council Councillor Matthew Evans said “I have known Omar for many years when we both served on the Police Authority, I have always found him to be extremely conscientious, dedicated and passionate about the issues faced in the local community. He will be a real asset to the party locally and I very much look forward to working with him “

Omar Ali said:

In my time as a Labour Councillor and over 40 years of living in Newport I have seen Labour neglect our poorest communities particularly. There is a lack of ambition for this city with Labour, and a lack of support especially for small businesses.

I have simply grown out of Labour! I have always believed in personal responsibility & self-reliance. I have come to understand more and more that the best route out of poverty is entrepreneurship and SME's. Strong families and supporting families.

Omar was a Cllr between 2013 & 2017 and was Chairman of Streetscene, Regeneration and Community Safety for some of those years. He served as Equalities Champion and is currently a Governor at Pillgwenlly Primary School.
